My Tax Advice? Hire a CPA.

This month the theme here at Small Firm Innovation is “Taxes” and I’m sure there will be a variety of advice. Some people may say, “Use Turbo Tax Business!” others may say, “Use Tax Act Business Edition!” or some other varient of “Do it yourself!”

I couldn’t disagree more: hire a Certified Public Accountant.

Yes, maybe your taxes are simple enough for you to do yourself.

Hire a CPA.

Maybe you do your own personal taxes. Hire a CPA. Maybe your partner is really good with numbers.

Hire a CPA.

How often do we as lawyers say, “You should consult with a lawyer…” regarding even a ‘simple’ legal matter like a basic will? Collectively we rail against legal ‘do it yourself’ advice, ‘form’ shops, and extoll the virtues of our learned, licensed, professional advice. So when it comes to taxes, I think we should follow our own advice and seek out a learned, licensed, professional: a CPA.

Enough said.
